OUR 2025 INDIGENOUS GUERNSEY
The Dees are proud to unveil their 2025 Indigenous Guernsey.
DESIGNED BY KEVIN KROPINYERI
The Melbourne Football Club’s 2025 Sir Doug Nicholls Round guernsey has been designed by Kevin Kropinyeri. Kevin is a proud Ngarrindjeri artist, comedian and sculptor.
For many keen Dees fans, the Kropinyeri name would be a familiar one and that’s because Kevin also happens to be the father of much-loved Demon Kysaiah Kropinyeri Pickett.
It’s a special relationship that has led to the creation of this year’s powerful design, capturing Kevin and Kysaiah’s connection to their Ngarrindjeri culture, while also showcasing their love of the Melbourne Football Club.
The Shield
The Shield represents our traditional warriors. The shield symbolises divine protection, faith and resilience. Our footballers are our modern day warriors in this game that we love.
The Weaving
Weaving is a very important and wonderful tradition of the Ngarrindjeri Nation. The process of weaving is a way to share knowledge & bring people together.
The Text
The Ngarrindjeri do not have a traditional word for "EVERY", however we have a word for "ALL":
"YARN MAWUN WUNNAMURKAKUL PROLIN AMBE NGARIMATINLINY AMBI"
The Ngarrindjeri text for the guernsey.
"ALL HEARTS BEAT TRUE FOR THE RED AND THE BLUE"
The Ngarrindjeri translation of the text.
